Proxima Centauri is a poem exploring love, distance, connection, and fragility. To better understand its emotional landscape, I interviewed its author before building two interconnected interpretations: a mixed-media short film and a companion publication. Together, both pieces expand the poem through moving image, sound, editorial design, and materiality, creating a narrative that unfolds across different mediums.

From concept to production, I conducted the interview, directed and produced the audiovisual piece, developed the editorial design, and completed the printing, binding, and packaging of the final publication.

Together, the film and publication were presented as a unified installation, allowing viewers to engage with the poem through sound, motion, and physical interaction.

I wanted to build a visual interpretation that remained faithful to the poem, so I began by interviewing the author to better understand the emotions, symbolism, and personal experiences behind the text.

Those conversations became the foundation of the project. Every creative decision across both the film and the publication was built around the interview, while leaving room for the audience to form their own interpretations.

I then developed the mixed-media short film.

Print process

I developed a publication that connected the poem, the interview, and the film into a single editorial narrative.

I reused the same typography, color palette, imagery, and

visual language to create continuity across both mediums, while integrating still frames and interview extracts to reveal

the thinking behind the audiovisual decisions.

Audiovisual process

I used color, sound, pacing, and motion to express its emotional landscape rather than its literal meaning.

The complementary color palette, abstract imagery, fragmented animation, and recorded beach sounds were all shaped by highlights from the interview, reinforcing themes of distance, longing, and quiet admiration. I also edited the poem’s reading to create intentional pauses, allowing the rhythm of the narration to reflect the emotional space between the two characters.

I reinforced the poem's themes through the physical qualities of the book. A compact format, generous white space, textured paper, ring binding, and translucent packaging were all chosen to communicate intimacy, distance, and fragility. Every structural decision was made to ensure the publication didn't simply document the project, but became a tactile extension of the poem itself.
